Atholton High School Bully-Free Forever Club (BFF)

Wed, 03/07/2018 - 11:27am

On April 13, the Atholton High School Bully-Free Forever Club (BFF) will hold a school-wide event to stop bullying that includes an assembly with student speakers and performances. The BFF Club is extending a challenge to every elementary, middle and high school to turn April 13 into a countywide day to eradicate bullying from Howard County.
Schools that choose to participate can make their events unique and of any scope and size. Here are a few of the highlights of the BFF events occurring at Atholton:

  • Posting paper hearts with positive messages on every locker in the building.
  • Taking the Blue Pinky Promise (boys can have a ribbon if they choose instead of painted nail.)
  •  Student-created posters decorating the hallways and outside of school.
  • The highlight of the day is a BFF assembly that includes:
    • Student and staff stories of experiencing and overcoming bullying
    • Guest speakers
    • Student speakers from the Best Buddies program and other school clubs
    • Dance company and choir performance
    • Anti-bullying video

Additional resources may be accessed on the HCPSS website including a joint video message from Dr. Martirano and Christine McComas as well as a video highlighting the event held at Atholton HS earlier this year to eradicate bullying.

Schools can use this day as an opportunity to help students understand how to report bullying and stand up for peers who are experiencing bullying behavior.
