Attendance Information for Fall Semester 2020-2021

Mon, 09/21/2020 - 1:25pm

For the Fall Semester of SY20-21, attendance will be recorded as follows for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday virtual instruction:

  • Attendance will return to the traditional attendance format.
  • Teachers must record period by period attendance in Synergy.
  • Daily attendance will be based on teacher-recorded attendance for period 1.
  • Attendance secretaries will review for full-day and half-day codes.
  • If there is technical difficulty, a student may submit asynchronous work for a particular day to receive credit for attendance.
  • Parents should email GHSAbsence@hcpss.org, if your student will not be in their virtual class.

Student attendance for Wednesday instruction will occur as follows:

  • Teachers must record period by period attendance. It is particularly important for students not attending since the default is present.
  • A student should be marked absent if they did not:
    • attend class on any school day since the prior Wednesday OR
    • submit an assignment to the teacher during the same time period.

Q: What are the procedures for students coming late or leaving class early?

  • In order for a student to be considered present, the student must attend 25 minutes or more of a 45-minute class.  For a student to be dismissed early from class, the parent/guardian must email GHSAbsence@hcpss.org and the teacher from whose class the student will be dismissed.

Attendance Updates

Please continue to encourage your students to turn on their cameras for instruction. Minimally, they should be turning on their cameras to ask and answer questions and at the request of the teacher. If a student is being asked a question and they do not answer verbally by turning on their audio and they also do not type the answer into the class chat, your child will be marked absent. With cameras off, teachers cannot confirm your students are present. They must respond in some fashion (verbally or through chat) when called upon.

In addition, please make sure your students are signing into class on time. The expectation is that students will enter at the designated class times.

  • 1st period - 9:00am
  • 2nd period - 10:00am
  • 3rd period - 1:10pm
  • 4th period - 2:10pm
