SAT/ACT Test-Optional Schools

University of Maryland, College Park has shared with us that once a student submits their application, College Park will email a survey to the applicant asking whether they wish to submit SAT/ACT scores. Completion of this survey will trigger the completion of the application process for the student. If the student does not complete this survey, their application will remain incomplete.

*This is an important note. During this time of COVID-19 and remote learning, other colleges may have similar/individual requirements. It will be extremely important for students to closely monitor their emails for any/all correspondences from colleges to ensure a smooth, complete application process.

Financial Aid Workshop, HCC

Financial Aid Services at Howard Community College is very excited about our upcoming virtual FAFSA workshops. In previous years, HCC sent a team of financial aid representatives to assist students and parents with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To provide the same service while keeping HCC staff and HCPSS students, staff, and parents safe, we will be available to assist through secure zoom sessions. To sign-up for 1:1 assistance please visit Sign-Up Genius at We are offering various dates and times throughout October. We have even made some Saturday hours available for your convenience.

Completing the FAFSA typically takes 45 minutes. To ensure that we can optimize our time together and that we have a successful zoom session, we ask that you have the following information available:

Student and the parent’s FSA ID, if you already have one. To create an FSA ID click HERE

  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 Tax Returns, if filed*.
  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 W2s, 1099s and/or Schedule Cs, if worked and,
  • All 2019 untaxed income information. Untaxed information includes but is not limited to child support, housing, food, and other living allowances, veterans' non-educational benefits, etc.

*Some students and parents can use the IRS DRT tool. If you are eligible, you do not need a copy of your 2019 tax returns.

Deadlines are important when it comes to applying for financial assistance. Starting the application process early is the key. We hope that offering these virtual services will be helpful to your family, and will encourage early completion of the FAFSA so that you can maximize your opportunity to receive financial assistance from federal, state, institutional, and private agencies.

Please note, this workshop is not just for those planning to attend Howard Community College. It is for all students preparing for any college during the 2021-2020 academic year. We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to assisting you and your family.

Yearbook Recognition AD for Class of 2021, DUE November 16, 2020

As you know, so much of what we once considered to be a “normal” school year has changed, especially for our seniors. We know many of you are looking for anything you can do to maintain some sense of normalcy and tradition and celebrate your senior. Yearbook recognition ads are a great way for parents, families, and friends to commemorate student achievements and important milestones. In addition, revenue from recognition ads helps our school to create a better yearbook. To purchase your ad online, follow the instructions on the attached flyer or go directly to this link to begin creating your ad. All ad orders must be placed online by November 16, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hillary Frank, the yearbook advisor.
