FAFSA Workshops in October 2020

Thu, 10/08/2020 - 9:10am

Dear Students/Parents~

Financial Aid Services at Howard Community College is very excited about our upcoming virtual FAFSA workshops. In previous years, HCC sent a team of financial aid representatives to assist students and parents with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In an effort to provide the same service while keeping HCC staff and HCPSS students, staff, and parents safe, we will be available to assist through secure zoom sessions. To sign-up for 1:1 assistance please visit Sign-Up Genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4ea8a82cabf58-20212022. We are offering various dates and times throughout the month of October. We have even made some Saturday hours available for your convenience.

Completing the FAFSA typically takes 45 minutes. To ensure that we can optimize our time together and that we have a successful zoom session, we ask that you have the following information available:

Student and the parent’s FSA ID, if you already have one. To create an FSA ID click HERE

  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 Tax Returns, if filed*.
  • A copy of the student and/or the parent’s 2019 W2s, 1099s and/or Schedule Cs, if worked and,
  • All 2019 untaxed income information. Untaxed information includes but is not limited to child support, housing, food, and other living allowances, veterans' non-educational benefits, etc.

*Some students and parents are able to use the IRS DRT tool. If you are eligible, you do not need a copy of your 2019 tax returns.

Deadlines are important when it comes to applying for financial assistance. Starting the application process early is the key. We hope that offering these virtual services will be helpful to your family, and will encourage early completion of the FAFSA so that you are able to maximize your opportunity to receive financial assistance from federal, state, institutional, and private agencies.

Please note, this workshop is not just for those planning to attend Howard Community College. It is for all students preparing for any college during the 2021-2020 academic year. We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to assisting you and your family.
