Gardening and Geo Club

Mr. Brain Bohlayer, Math Teacher, wanted to form a group of students interested in gardening/farming, growing fresh organic fruits and vegetables, sharing produce, plants, seeds, etc. with others, particularly those in need. Working along with Dr. Jennifer Shepard, Science Teacher, and her GEO Club students, they were able to compile a list of students who are interested in gardening/farming, want to do good things in the world, and/or just want to get out of the house for a little bit. Last week was their first GHS student volunteer day at the farm, and 14 students volunteered to help with a variety of tasks. We commend these students for giving back to their community and volunteering their time for a great cause!

One of our incredible seniors, Faith Haney, did her GT mentorship at the Freetown Farm in Columbia (right near Atholton HS and the Grassroots Center) last year, and she helped to connect me with the director of the farm, Chiara D'Amore.  It's an awesome place, rich in history, and they're involved in many initiatives right now that are helping to provide healthy food for those in need.  More info can be found here: https://www.communityecologyinstitute.org/community-ecology-center.html
