2021 Graduation Information

Congratulations on this exciting day!

We are looking forward to seeing all our graduates and guest on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 3:00 pm. We have some information regarding graduation we sure you have been looking for. Glenelg High School will dismiss the underclassmen at 2:15 pm on June 3, 2021.

This email will outline arrival time, parking, meeting place for seniors before the ceremony, reserved seating for ADA accommodations if needed, and more.  If you do not see any of your questions answered in this email, please feel free to call Glenelg High School and we will be happy to help!

 

Arrival Information:

  • Students should arrive at Merriweather Post Pavilion no later than 2:15 pm.
  • Students should meet at the walkway of Merriweather between the pavilion and grass seating no later than 2:45 pm.
  • Students should be dressed in their caps and gowns.
  • Families should plan to arrive no more than 60 minutes, and no less than 30 minutes, before the ceremony.

 

Tickets:

  • All graduating seniors received six (6) tickets.
  • Tickets will be collected at the entrances of Merriweather Post Pavilion.
  • Please make sure all guests have a ticket to enter the pavilion.

 

Parking:

  • Please review the information below and the attached map. Students and guests are strongly encouraged to ride together and must park in the assigned lots when arriving at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
  • Parking lots will open at 2:00 pm, 1 hour in advance of the ceremony start time.
  • Please follow the signs and directions of the parking attendants to make the event run as smoothly as possible. Uniformed parking attendants will be facilitating the parking for all HCPSS commencement ceremonies.
  • Parking for all guest are allowed in lots 3 (green), 4 (red) and 5 (blue) as indicated on the map. Each lot has a short walk to the pavilion; please plan accordingly for time and comfort.
    • If the assigned lots are full, the parking attendants will redirect guests to another parking lot.
  • ADA parking tags and plate holders will be allowed to park in the handicapped parking "Lot 1" (purple lot, see map) if they have the proper tags/plates. These lots are located off of Little Patuxent Parkway on the right side near Merriweather Post Pavilion. Parking staff may also direct vehicles to other marked ADA spaces if they are available.
  • Drop off for guests who cannot walk from the designated parking lots is available (see attachment). However, this is limited as there is only a small road for drop-off.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, please make every effort to vacate the parking lot as quickly as possible so that parking is available for the next school.

Howard County Police will be directing traffic to help all guests into Merriweather. Parking attendants will be in the designated lots to help ensure smooth and efficient parking.

ADA Accommodations:

  • For guests who need an ASL interpreter, one will be on stage at Merriweather during the ceremony.
  • Seats for families who need these services will need to request seating accommodations. Please email Tenille Wagoner at tenille_wagoner@hcpss.org.
  •  Families who need handicapped seating
  • There are seats located at the top of section 200 for any guests unable to use the stairs.
  • There is also an ADA entrance near the ADA drop-off at Merriweather.
    • Seating in this location is limited to only two guests per family. Please contact Tenille Wagoner at tenille_wagoner@hcpss.org if you need any information.

 

Additional Information:

  • Following new State orders announced last week, staff, students, family members, and guests who wish to wear masks are welcome to do so.
  • If you wish to sit in the grass seating, please bring a chair or blanket
  • Please arrive no earlier than 2:15 pm. There is another graduation before Glenelg's Graduation, and traffic will be an issue.

 

Can't Make it to Graduation?

We are excited to continue the tradition of streaming all high school commencement ceremonies live on the HCPSS website at www.hcpss.org. If you have family that are unable to attend, they can watch the graduations live! On-demand viewing also will be available following each ceremony. HCPSS also rebroadcast the graduations on Howard County cable channels 42 (Verizon) and 95 (Comcast).
