UMBC  Meyerhoff Scholars Program

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program invites nominations for their scholarship.  If you are a student who exhibits high aptitude in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) you may be a good candidate for this scholarship. 

The Meyerhoff Program is open to all high-achieving high school seniors who plan to pursue undergraduate studies in STEM.  The Program’s merit scholarship awards range from $4,000 - 15,000 per year for in-state students and $10,000 – 22,000 per year for out-of-state students.

Bushy Park Elementary School will hold their Fall Festival this Friday, October 8.  They need 4-5 Volunteer to help out at the Festival from 5:00-8:00 pm who can do face painting for the event.  If you can help out see Mrs. Miles in Student Services for information about how to sign up.

 

Seniors-  College Essay Writing Workshops

Need help developing ideas for creative college admissions essays? Interested in having someone read over your rough draft essays? Student Services is offering another Essay Writing Workshop soon.  You can register for this event through your STUDENT Naviance account. From the homepage click the Colleges tab, click College Visits, scroll down to locate your event date, and click Register Now to register.

Math Supports 21_22

Welcome to Lunch Math Tutoring 2021-22

The specifics

1. Offered Daily for ALL math courses during A, B and D lunch shifts. Students should eat their lunch quickly and then report to room 201, no pass required.

2. Students will NOT sign up ahead of time, this is a drop-in tutoring session.

3. Tutoring will begin 10 minutes into each lunch shift.

4. Tutoring will be conducted by NHS, Math Honor Society, or Student Aides with Mrs. Doermann and/or Mr. Mize always available.

5. Students will sign in every time they come. (used for contact tracing, attendance, etc)

6. Tutoring begins 9/9/21

Volunteer Opportunity:  Columbia Bluegrass Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion

Sunday, October 17th, 2021    Event is an outdoor event rain or shine.     11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Volunteer Arrival Time: 9:45 am                          Volunteer Departure Time: 7:15 pm

Number of Volunteers Needed: 30-35

Merriweather Post Pavillion  10475 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044

Parking Information: Will provide information after registration

Volunteer Check-in Location: Backstage

Responsibilities: Greet patrons, help provide directional support, support MPP staff as needed

Split shifts available: At this time, no split shifts available. This is subject to change based on the number of interested/registered volunteers. Volunteers will work in pairs and be given numerous breaks throughout the day.

Food available for volunteers: Sandwiches, snacks, water available throughout event.

Dress for the weather with comfortable shoes. Volunteers will be given t-shirts to wear/keep.

NHS/SSL Hours Available: Yes. A letter highlighting volunteer responsibilities and hours served will be distributed at volunteer check-out. Because it is a long day, volunteers will receive bonus hours for participation.

COVID Guidelines:

· All volunteers for this event will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 upon registration.

· All volunteers will be required to wear a mask for the duration of volunteer service.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: This is an EXCEPTIONALLY FUN event! Volunteers will be given access to backstage. Interaction with bands/members may occur. Maturity and decorum required.

Attention 9th-10th grade students and parents!

Learn how Career and Technical Education (CTE) Career Academies provide high school students with opportunities to earn college credit, scholarships, and industry certifications, participate in worksite and mentorship experiences, and become creative problem solvers by participating in hands-on project-based learning. 

There will be three Information sessions. Each academy will present twice each evening, so that students and parents can visit with two different academies.
