First Day of School Information

We are almost there, Gladiators! The first day of school is Monday, August 24, 2026, and we are excited to welcome our students back to Glenelg High School!

A huge thank you to all of the students, parents, and community members who joined us for New Student Orientation and Back to School Night. We appreciate you taking the time to visit the school, meet our staff, ask questions, and get ready for another great school year.

If you were unable to attend, don't worry! Here is the information that was shared at the Back to School Night Presentation

Here are some things you need to know:

First Day of School
Monday, August 24, 2026

Need to Find Your Bus?
Use the bus information provided by HCPSS to confirm your student's bus number, stop, and schedule. Please review this information with your student before Monday.

Students/families may find their bus stop and pickup/drop-off times by logging in to HCPSS Connect Synergy, select More Options and then Homeroom / Transportation / POS to determine bus times. This information also can be found in the HCPSS online bus locator.

Bus routes and schedules are subject to change as routes are designed and/or revised. The location and times listed online include the most up to date information.

Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
Please use the designated parent drop-off area and follow the directions of our staff. We ask that everyone be patient as we work through the first few mornings. Traffic will be heavier than usual, so please allow extra time.

To help keep our students, staff, and families safe, please use the designated drop-off and pick-up locations shown on the map. Do not drop students off in the front bus parking lot .

Parents may use either of the following locations:

Option 1 – Auditorium Entrance Loop, Parking Lot C (Front of School, Right Side)

  • Enter from Burntwoods Road at the main school entrance.
  • Stay to the right as you enter the driveway.
  • Follow the loop around the front of the auditorium.
  • Drop your student off at the designated curbside drop-off area (noted on map).
  • Continue through the loop and exit onto Sharp Road.
  • Please pull as far forward as possible before your student exits the vehicle.

Option 2 – Student Parking Lot, Lot A

  • Enter from Burntwoods Road using Lot A.
  • Follow the designated traffic pattern through the parking lot.
  • Drop students off at the marked sidewalk near the building.
  • Exit using the traffic pattern back onto Burntwoods Road.

For Everyone's Safety

  • Use only the designated drop-off locations shown on the map.
  • Do not stop in travel lanes or block intersections.
  • Students should exit only onto the sidewalk side of the vehicle.
  • Follow all posted traffic signs/cones.
  • Be alert for pedestrians, student drivers, and school buses at all times.

Thank you for helping us provide a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal for all Glenelg High School students.

Parking Information for Senior and Juniors ONLY

Senior and Junior who drive to school must have a parking permit to park on school property. Please complete the form to purchase a permit.

Arriving at School
The start time for students is 7:50 am, this means students are in classes at this time. The main doors open at 7:30 am for students to enter the building. Students should know where they are going before arriving Monday morning. Encourage your student to have their schedule available and give themselves plenty of time to find their first period class.

The first day can feel a little overwhelming, especially for our new students, so please remind your student that it is completely okay to ask for help. Our staff will be throughout the building and ready to assist.

Attendance Policies and Procedures

Please utilize the link to access GHS Attendance Information. A copy of the HCPSS Attendance Policy (Policy 9010) can be found here, Policy 9010.

  • Any students who arrive after 7:50 am will sign in electronically using a check-in system called StudentVue found at the attendance window. Students should have a copy of their school ID with them to sign in, if they do not have one, they can log into to receive a pass using their HCPSS login information
  • Discretionary absence requests must be completed and attached through email in advance of the absence. Currently, the anticipated last day of school is June 8, 2027. The possibility exists (due to inclement weather, etc) that the school year could extend up until June 16, 2027. Please be mindful in making plans that consist of dates within this window as the days would be utilized for course final examinations which may not be taken early.

We are looking forward to seeing all of our Gladiators on Monday!

Thank you for your continued support of Glenelg High School. Let's make it a great first day and an even better school year!

Go Gladiators!
