The Advanced Research Program

Students can take three courses in the Advanced Research program:

  • Independent Research for underclassmen; students self-select topics, design thesis statements, cultivate sources, collect and interpret original data, and share the conclusions in a paper, presentation and product. While there is no official application that must be completed to enroll in Independent Research, please submit this interest inventory by January 30, 2026. View the curriculum outline here.
  • Mentorship for upperclassmen; students pair the research course curriculum (students self-select topics, design thesis statements, cultivate sources, collect and interpret original data, and share the conclusions in a paper, presentation and product) with an internship which offers a chance to work side-by-side with a professional in the field. See the application here. It's due January 30, 2026. View the curriculum outline here.
  • Advanced Placement Seminar for all grade levels. AP Seminar is a foundational course in the AP Capstone Diploma program that develops students' skills in research, analysis, and argumentation. Students learn to analyze and evaluate information through texts and multimedia, conduct research, write evidence-based essays, and present their findings in individual and team projects. The course focuses on a project-based approach with two performance tasks and an end-of-course exam.
