Jena Ialongo is a senior at Glenelg High School. With the help of a dozen other people, they have been able to make over 1200 masks and donate them to people in need. Jenna was featured on WJZ for her work and also she set up a virtual prom via video conferencing app Zoom with her friends. We are proud of the work all of our Gladiators are doing during these difficult time! Way to go Gladiator!
Congratulations to Emmanuel Mekasha and Nicole Wildy for scoring in the top 2.5% on the PSAT/NMSQT among high school junior test-takers in our region who identify as one or more of the following: African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area, or from a small town. These students are invited to participate in the College Board National Recognition Programs (CBRP). Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment!
We are pleased to share that the HoCo Rainbow Conference is ON... and going ONLINE (through Google Meet)! Registration is currently underway and we hope you will spread the word to your students and staff members and let them know that they can go to our website bit.ly/HCPSSRainbow to complete registration to attend this FREE conference. Conference attendees will receive a copy of the Rainbow Vision Literary Magazine featuring student voices from high school students throughout HCPSS, as well as a conference bag and resources (as soon as schools reopen and we have access to retrieving them). Participants can register for just one OR up to seven sessions that they wish to attend.
I know that all of you are frustrated and upset over the loss of this Spring Season. The staff and I share those same emotions. This is acceptable given the situation. The staff and I want to especially acknowledge our seniors. We all had high expectations for this season.
This week we were invited to participate in the virtual Watershed Summit and see the amazing things our students are working on. Typically, students attend the Watershed Summit as part of their science class. This year, Ava Stamatakis and Ashna Pandya worked on their presentation before school let out and then put in the time this week to prepare for the virtual summit. Elizabeth Bai is the GHS Plastics Student Force rep and she came to the summit to serve as a watershed advocate. We have bright, hard-working kids at GHS and it's nice to let them showcase their abilities at events like this. Way to go Gladiators!
